Harvey's is turning its old offices above the Brewery Shop on Cliffe High Street into the Bridge Wharf Inn, eight en-suite rooms. Bookings open soon.

Harvey’s Brewery has named its new rooms in Lewes: the Bridge Wharf Inn. It will have eight en-suite bedrooms on the floors above the Brewery Shop on Cliffe High Street.

The brewery says it is “busy putting the finishing touches” to the rooms and that bookings will open soon. It has not yet published an opening date or prices. The details are on the Bridge Wharf Inn page of Harvey’s website, which went up this month.

What is being built

The rooms are in what used to be the brewery’s offices. Harvey’s office staff have moved to its depot site in Daveys Lane, Lewes, the brewery said when it first announced the plan on 29 April.

According to Harvey’s, the Bridge Wharf Inn will have:

  • eight en-suite rooms, each designed individually
  • room themes taken from Harvey’s, its pubs and “the people and places connected to them”
  • work by local designers, artists and craftspeople
  • a setting inside what the brewery calls its Grade II listed brewery buildings

The team named in April is JSA Architects, Cheesmur Building Contractors and Pfeiffer Design, a local interiors firm. Harvey’s said then that guests would be able to pair a stay with one of its brewery tours.

What the brewery says

Hamish Elder, Harvey’s chairman and managing director, said in April: “Having brewed on this site for eight generations, we’re very conscious of the history around us. This project allows us to preserve that connection while opening up a new chapter for the brewery.”

The brewery said it hoped the rooms would encourage more visitors to stay overnight in Lewes and spend money with other local businesses.

When it opens

In April, Harvey’s said the rooms were expected to open “towards the end of the year”. Its October page says only that they are “coming soon”. We will update this story when a date and prices are published.

What it means for you

  • You cannot book yet. Harvey’s is taking names for a mailing list on its Bridge Wharf Inn page, and says people on it will hear first when bookings open.
  • It adds rooms at the Cliffe end of town. If friends or family are coming to stay, our guide to things to do in Lewes and parking in Lewes cover the rest of the trip.
